What You Want to Memorise

I was taken to task at work last week for not be as au faix or knowledgeable about a subject matter connected to my responsibilities as I should have been. If I am honest, I have to admite the manager was right.

The reason why I hadn't absorbed the information however, was because it didn't really interest me nor was it connected with the main responsibilities that I was working on.

That doesn't make it right on my part however, not to learn the information in question; indeed, with hindsight, I should have made a more concerted effort to do so.

What I find is that, unless the subject matter interests me, affects me directly or I feel a sense of pressure or urgency to do so, I will put it to onside and not address it unless absolutely necessary.

I am not sure how I can overcome this issue, short of becoming consciously aware of it and being mideful of the fact that I need to do so going forward.

I guess I can relate...

I notice when I have to learn or memorize something that I'm not interested in I have a hard time doing it myself. I really don't know how to improve this, so I cannot really give any good solid tips for assistance. In the past management tended to give me additional tasks to my position that I had to learn and memorize. I could not do it that well because I did not like what they were giving me, felt uncomfortable doing it and it did interfere with my other duties in my position. Some of these extra tasks were eventually removed but others remained.

I guess sometimes we just have to do what has to be done and try our best to do it right.

Uninteresting Information

This is exactly the problem that I have!

Like you I am not sure what the problem is. I think that the only lesson I have learnt is to try to recognise when this is occuring and then make a conscious effort to learn that material.

It is hard mind; not least of all because recognising when this issue starts to become relevant is incredibly hard.
