Temporary Job Assignment Change
This isn't really a topic, just more of an update on what's going on with me at work.
One of our Assistant Registrars are leaving the office for another job in a different area. As a result this person's job need to be done. They will be leaving at the end of the week.
The Registrar had a couple of meetings with me about this and it seems like I'm going to be doing most of that person's job since I'm the only one who has some prior experience with that type of work. The Registrar is going to do the public part of the job and help out when needed. He's also going to do other tasks that this person did. A couple of other people are going to do other tasks that this person did also. In the meanwhile the Registrar wants other people in the office to do my current job now. We're going to have another meeting about this tomorrow, hopefully.
From what I told this is temporary only for a few months until they get a Associate Registrar and even a replacement for this person leaving. I'm not looking forward to this and expressed my feelings about it. It looks like I have no choice though, especially since the Registrar is going to make arrangements for other people to do my regular job and since he's going to do some of it also.

My New Job Assignment
Well, I've been doing this new task for the last couple of days. I have to admit I'm not a fan of this particular task and don't like the system I'm working with. I really hope I can do this and get through it. Hopefully this won't be too long of a period until they get someone else.
This new task I'm doing temporarily (looks like I did not mention it in my last posting about this) is scheduling and room requests. Basically I schedule various classes for the semester and put them in avaliable rooms. Sometimes there are various room changes and changes in the times of these courses. It sounds like input but it's a more than that, especially when you have to deal with another different system and deal with other people to make sure they know what changes are going on and make sure you know what changes are going on. I won't go into bitter details of the particular job but that's the just of it.
On the positive side even though I don't like the system I'm working with it appears I'm learning it better than expected and it appears (as crazy as it sounds) there are people who say I'm doing pretty good. Let's see what happens when things get real busy and as time goes on.
Initial Adjustment
Sounds to me as though you are experiencing the typical effect we all do when starting to use something unfamiliar!
I had to do some product testing a month or two back of competitor websites. Initially I found it very hard; even though they were children's sites I found them hard to get into and to get going!
Once I had it was fine. It also emabled me to really learn "learn by doing which I have spoken about often".
I suspect that this is the case with you from what you describe. Well done for how it is going so far.
Thanks
Thanks for the encouragement! I hope it goes well and I hope it's a temporary arrangement like they said. Even though I did bits of this type of work before I never really did it as full blown as this. It does seem like a unfamiliar world to me even though I had some experience in it.
Sometimes that happens in
Sometimes that happens in offices. That's the punishment of beng well rounded! :) I might warn you that speaking up about your unwillingness to do this can make you seem like a non-team-player. Tread carefully.
