Stopping

I have been working on a technique that I have found highly beneficial recently in enabling me to remember things and data: simply stopping and thinking.

Before I embark on anything I am simply pausing and thinking about what I am about to do (or where I am going), what it involves and what I need. I am finding it hugely effective!

One simple example. Before I leave the house to go to a meeting, I run through the things in my mind that I may be using: mobile phone, credit card for travel and what will be discussed at that meeting and what I may need. It only takes a few seconds, but it is time well worth spending.

An extension of this is when I need to remember data or something. I stop again, think about exactly what the data is I code it by running to through my mind a couple of times and record it. As I have mentioned before this is known as "rehearsal".

Central to both of the above examples is slowing down and not rushing either physically or mentally.
