Saying No

I am going to have to say no again this week to a social event that two female colleagues have arranged.

I declined last time and don't really want to this time, but there is another person I am due to meet and I really want to see him.

I am going to have to say no therefore and am not looking forwrad to it. I want to emphasise that I won't to be invited next time and will make an effort to come - but I said that last time. I am worried that my words and promises are beginning to sound hollow.

Any suggestions?
