Proactivity

I am working on a couple of projects at the moment; ones' that I will be repeating from previously which means that I am going over past material.

Not much needs changing, but some updating is both required and beneficial. It is also a means of refreshing my mind as to what I have done previously which is also essential for me in order to operate effectively.

I have a few days to do this yet I was questionning myself yesterday as I didn't feel any real urgency to do things.

I know from past experience that if I do do things sooner rather than later I get ahead of the game. This is enormously beneficial because it prevents pressure building later (or Sods Law coming into play) and, more importantly, stress. Yet I was having to force myself to do things.

I have written about this before as a feature under my "Viewpoint" section; its called urgency addiction (http://aspergermanagement.com/urgency-addiction-getting-things-done) Basically this is where someone doesn't do something they know needs to be done until they feel a need - or urgency - to do so.

I am never quite sure why I do/experience this but, even after a few years of being aware of the issue, I still feel myself fighting to overcome it!

This reminds of a recent assignment

Speaking about these projects and some of things you are doing to finish them reminds me of a recent assignment. I had to go over certain documents discussing how to do my job duties. I went over some of the things that were printed in the past and some other items that I did some time ago. Luckily I got this done and so far it looks okay. As times goes on I might have to revisit this again since we will be going under a whole new system in a few months.

At work I try to do things as soon as I can so I don't forget about them plus I don't like doing things at the last minute because it can be stressful. People always like (and sometimes dislike) how I get things done fast and get right on to assignments that need to be done.

Good luck!

Finding the Time

Using previous examples of a task as used by someone else can be a really good way of getting started on something that you are not familiar with. I once heard heard someone else describe this as a "recipe".

Getting ahead of the game as described above can be bee very stress-preventing and quite motivating. This is because I know/feel I won't be experiencing the former.

Its also the best way to then create the mindsight of being able to be proactive from there on in and develop the area of work further.
