New Scientist Article

I have just been reading a most interesting article in The New Scientist magazine here in the UK entitles "The Advantgaes of Autism": http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20627581.500-the-advantages-of-aut...

Basically, it talks about focusing on the benefits of having autism (AS) as opposed to, the negatives. It also throws up some most interesting points that could relate to the world of work and being a manager with Asperger syndrome.

Firstly, it suggests that people with autism don't just think differently, they think better! It goes on to say that companies are now recognising these qualities and, therefore, seeking to take advantage/exploit them. Danish firm Specialisterne is once again quoted.

Research by Dawson has questioned "Weak Central Coherence" or weakness in integrating data and information and how it can sometimes be a real asset in areas like enhanced attantion to detail and resistance to distraction. It also highlights enhanced visuo-spatial skills which, as visitors to AspergerManagement will know, is someting that I practice and believe can be incredibly valuable in a work contect: laying out business scenarios on paper for example.

It concludes with the assertion that, until the spectrum is fully understood, then the "autie advantage" and the full range of autistic abilities that a person can offer, will rmain unknown. Ergo, for me, people with Asperger working in management!

I am going to post some other findings under different subjects on the Forums. It would be great if people could visit and comment
