Maintaining Gravitas

I have just posted on my blog about agitating my boss today. I asked her for an e-mail that I had sent her yesterday but hadn't filed propely. The end result is that I couldn't find it when I wanted to!

I have a pretty good relationship with her and she has always said that she can rely on me to get on with things which is pretty good.

I need to maintain this. I have to ensure that I am proactive, deliver solutions not problems and that I am not seen as a burden on her in any way.

Only asking your superior for authorisation and not for day-to-day things is the way to establish and maintain gravitas.

Part of this is going ahead and doing things without their permission and accepting the consequences of doing so - even if it subsequently proves wrong.
