Impending Change

We are about to move office in six weeks so there is a big chnage on the horizon.

The new office is not from from my current one and so it will no involve massive change It is still in London, will involve roughly the same journey time - in fact it will be a slightly easier journey - and I will still get my desired walk in the morning.

However, it is change. I need to prepare mentally for it now. It will be a change in routine and my surroundings will be very different. I am going to start to run through things in my own mind over the next few weeks and think about my job tasks and how they could be affected.

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Yes, since I started work,

Yes, since I started work, we have had constant changes in location and team composition. I've managed some of these changes better than others. It's been best when there has been at least a week's warning and the change has been explained clearly to us.

I also cope better with these changes when I can see they will lead to improved work practices, easier access to shops and a more effective team.

Philosophy of Change

I read this last week about change and its philosophy. I thought that it summed up change and having Asperger syndrome perfectly.

I also thought that it was highly applicable from a work perspective:

French philosopher Alain: "all change seems impossible. But once
accomplished, it is the state you are no longer in that seems
impossible".

We're relocating twice in

We're relocating twice in the next fortnight or so due to building renovations where I work. There was also much talk of having a new manager every month which I did not react well to.

I have been assured I will be kept with either my last manager or my new manager who is very understanding so that has helped but all the moving is causing some upheavals for most people so I know I'm not the only one finding it a trial now and then.

Changing Environment and Manager

How did the changes go? I hope that went well for you.

I feel as though I have come to terms quite well with environmental (physical) changes now. I have been through a few and have now identified the effects and how to deal with them

What is much harder of course is a change of manager as it can never be predicted what he/she is going to be like.

Its a key area in relation to change where, I feel, the only positive way forward is to be proactive and take personal responsibility. A new manager will be busy, won't know about your AS (or probably about AS at all) and will need guidance as to your personal requirements.

being seen first up as an assistance - rather than a burden - I have found to be a good start; trying to establish cordial inter-personal relations and a good working relationship is another.

What I have found with the latter to be beneficial is actively seeking the person out and being seen to be overtly willing and supportive.
