Commencing Communication

I have recently started to appreciate that how I start a discourse or stage of communication is, perhaps, not entirely appropriate!!!

What I am becoming increasingly conscious of is starting by stating my position, rather than, telling the person why I trying to communicate what I am. The net result is that people assume that I mean something totally different which, more often than not, is taken as a negative.

Has anybody else found this? What I have started to do is commence any discourse or verbal interaction by explaining something rather than simply starting with what I am going to.

I find that it smoothes the passage of communication quite significantly.
