Additional Responsibility

I had an interview on Friday for an internal position.

It would not mean giving up what I currently do; more working alongside it as an additional responsibility.

I wasn't looking forward to it [the interview] as I wasn't sure if I wanted the job. The company had encouraged me to reply because the work related to my past experience.

I did some preparation and the interview went quite well. However, my intuition is telling me that I don't want the role and that I am half hoping I don't get offered it.

If it had come six months later I would have jumped at the opportunity, but I feel that it has come too early.

After only a month in a new posiiton, and trying to learn new material already, I feel that it could involve taking on too much which would be stressful.

I may not get it of course and will know at the end of this coming week.

I hope for your sake that

I hope for your sake that they pass you over. I am not sure how the work culture over there, but over here it is okay to turn down an opportunity, even after a positive interview and consideration for the position.

Political Correctness

Since the interview a new CEO has arrived. He is very keen on the area in question and believes that strategically the company needs to move in this direction.

For this reason I would have to think very carefully before turning it down. If I did, it could really count against me.

There are other good reasons for accepting. Its an important project, one to which the company is committed; it would mean added job security which, in this climate, would be very welcome.

It would also mean an opportunity for me to acquire leading edge skills and experience in an emerging area which would stand me in good stead in the eyes of other employers.

I haven't been offered it yet of course. We'll just have to wait and see!
